UV Curable adhesives such as resin, epoxy, and glue are adhesives cured under UV light. Exposure to UV and/or visible light produces strong, flexible encapsulants. Encapsulants are used for bare die, wire bonds, or integrated circuits. Typically, UV curable adhesives are optically clear so sensor arrays inside encapsulant remain visible. UV Curable materials come in dark amber or black syringes to block UV light.
GPD Global dispense systems are very flexible and can incorporate a LED UV wand for spot curing. The wand wave length is standard 368 mm, but others are available upon request. Spot curing can initiate the curing process or “freeze” an encapsulant to prevent fluid flow. Depending on the fluid, a final UV cure/oven may be required.
Dispensing pump selection is based on required fluid volume. We offers a wide range of pumps to dispense low to high viscosity fluids.
Small volumes of fluid are best achieved with our NCM5000 Jetting pump. During dispensing, the NCM5000 pump dispenses from a constant height of up to 4 mm above component surface. Droplet sizes down to 300 µm (0.3 mm) can be dispensed with UV Curable glues. Because of the reactive component in UV curable materials, use a Perfluoroelastomer (FFKM) diaphragm with the NCM5000 pump.
When dispensing larger volumes or area fills using UV Curable fluids, we recommend the Volumetric PCD pump. Volumetric equates to highly repeatable, air-free encapsulations. Volumetric rates up to 64 ml/min are available.
Dispensing UV materials can be handled by all of our dispense platforms from the fully automated MAX Series and DS Series to the benchtop Island/Catalina Series. A UV wand can be integrated into any of these platforms.
We also offer a retrofit kit for the Volumetric PCD Pump Series and NCM5000 Jetting Pump so you can integrate pumps into your platform. Retrofit kits come complete with a controller, interface cables, and mounting hardware.
